Wall Products - Lintels

NIC’s AAC Plant was established in 1983 with a potential to produce AAC Lintels of different shapes and sizes. These lintels are used in place of ordinary reinforced lintels. These lintel can also utilized for all building materials such as AAC Blocks, Cement Blocks or Lime Blocks. This plant can also produce AAC Panels for use in roof ceiling or complete interior partition.

Lintels Production Technology

Lintels are produced in automatic production lines, consisting of AAC mix, treated reinforced steel as per international standards. The manufacturing process is as follows:

Preparing two steel nets in Reinforced unit.
      Treatment of steel.
Immerse steel net into the fresh AAC mix.
Cutting slabs as per required dimensions.
Steam curing slabs for minimum 14 hours.
      Quality check stamp.
      Transfer slabs to stores yard.

Functions of Lintels

Covers interior & exterior opening of doors and windows in all conditions.
Can be used as decorate work and tenting.

Installation of Lintels in special case

Before cladding exterior surface with Lime Bricks steel angle should be fix parallel with the length of the lintel on the exterior surface. This steel angle are fixed by special anchors to avoid any vibration. But layer of lime brick cladding is fixed only on the steel angle.

Fixing method of steel angle parallel to face of lintel for cladding. If reinforced concrete column is present beside the lintel opening, steel angle should be used on face of column fixed by special anchors. These anchors bear cutting and high tensile strength whereas steel angles bear the load of lintels and wall.

Conditions of installing Lintels

      Do not use rejected lintels.
The span of lintel should not exceed ¾ of total length (as shown in Table 1).
The net span should not exceed the maximum span (3 meter).
Provide support distance from both edges.
Support distance must be 5/6 from each side and not less than 15 cm.
Support area should be fitted with enough glue mortar from both edges.
Fix the lintel according to the upper direction of arrow.
Level the lintel and make sure the upper surface is horizontal.
Never cut NIC Lintels without official permission.
Exterior lintels should be protected from rain.
In case of any consultancy, please call factory or company’s administration.

Advantages of NIC Lintels

The maximum length can be carried and fixed by two persons because of its light weight.
AAC Lintels can be carried manually without any equipments.
Saves time as the building system above it continues without any stoppage.
Does’t require any support of beam and no setting time required.
This system withstand extreme weather conditions and protection against iron rust.
Can be cladded by any available cladding system.
These Lintels can be repaired by using NIC mortar or ordinary mortar.
These Lintels bear allowed distributed load (as per Table 2).
Maximum deflection should be less than allowed deflection.

Lintel Testing

AAC Laboratory select regularly sample from lintel production and send it to Sulaibiya Factory where it is tested as per DIN 4223 which is approved as following :

      Ability of load bearing capacity.
      Maintain deflection limits.
Maximum testing load is two time of load bearing.

Comparison between NIC Lintels & Ready Mix Lintels:

NIC Lintels Ready Mix Slabs
1  Ready to fix, light weight and high load  bearing.  Mix on site, heavy, high load bearing.
2  Easy to lift & install and can be fix within 5  minutes only as follows:
  - shifting slab to site
  - Add mortar to supporting place of slabs.
  - Fix slabs and level them .
 Stages of preparing:
  - Fixing mould and fixing steel.
  - Put ready mix with regular watering.
  - Wait for complete setting and remove     mould shetaring.
3  Construction work can immediately start on it  without stoppage.  Cannot construct on it immediately, should  wait for 1 week minimum.
4  Heat Insulator & fire resistance.  Not insulated & effected by fire.
5  Reinforced steel is treated by special paint &  material to protect it from rust and corrosion  and extreme weather conditions.  Often steel is untreated and exposed to  air, which results in rust & corrosion which  leads  to damage after some time.
6  No hair cracks.  Hair cracks appear.
7  Save time and economical.  Delay of construction time and high  costing.
